Statue bust with laurel branches on the forearm, realism tattoo by CamillaCamilla · realisme

Soft gradients, rich detail, time to build the image.

Realism is about light and shadow: tones that blend into each other, so the design looks more like a picture than a drawing.

The style suits portraits, figures, animals, flowers and whole scenes. Because the details need space, realism is often larger than other styles, and larger designs also hold their detail better over time.

We draw the design from scratch together with you, and plan the shading around the placement. Large designs are often split into several sessions, so the skin can rest in between.

Questions and answers

What people ask about realism.

What is a realism tattoo?

Realism tattoos are meant to look like a picture, with smooth gradients, rich detail and tonal depth instead of clear outlines. The style is used for portraits, figures, animals and flowers.

How big should a realism tattoo be?

Ideally from around 15 × 15 cm and up. Detail and shading need space, and a larger design holds its detail better over time than a small one.

How much does a realism tattoo cost?

Realism is priced by size and level of detail, like all our tattoos. A 15–25 cm design costs NOK 2,500–7,000, and larger projects are priced per session. See the price sheet for more examples.
